Zyrtec tabs package
Cetirizine - an active ingredient of Zyrtec - is a metabolite of hydroxyzine belongs to a group of competitive antagonist of histamine and blocks H1-histamine receptors. Cetirizine warn development and facilitates the allergic reactions, has antipruritic and anti-exudative actions. Zyrtec affects the early histamine dependent phase of allergic reactions, restricts the release of mediators of inflammation at the late phase of allergic reactions, and also reduces the migration of neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils, stabilizes membranes fat cells; reduces the permeability of capillaries, prevents the development of tissues swelling, relieves the smooth muscles spasms, removes skin reaction to the introduction of histamine, specific allergens, as well as cooling (cold urticaria); reduces histamine inducted bronchoconstriction in bronchial asthma of mild form. Cetirizine almost hasn't anticholinergic and antiserotonin effect. In therapeutic doses the drug almost hasn't sedative effect. The effect after Cetirizine taking in a single dose of 10 mg is observed after 20 minutes (50% of patients), 60 minutes (in 95% of patients), and lasts for more than 24 hours. On the background of the course of treatment tolerance to cetirizine antihistamine action does not develop. After cancelling of the therapy the effect lasts up to 3 days.
