Cetirizine - an active ingredient of Zyrtec - is a metabolite of hydroxyzine belongs to a group of competitive antagonist of histamine and blocks H1-histamine receptors. On the background of the course of treatment tolerance to cetirizine antihistamine action does not develop. After cancelling of the therapy the effect lasts up to 3 days.
